New Patient Exam
New Patient Exam
We like to take our time carefully inspecting your mouth. A quick look isn’t what you want, what you need or what you are paying for. On your first visit with us, a comprehensive examination will be conducted:
- Complete record which indicates the full status of each tooth. Intra-oral images will be taken if required.
- Lymph node check.
- Full assessment of gums and soft tissue health.
- TMJ check
- Evaluation and assessment of patient bite. To determine potentially disruptive areas and reasons for improvement.
- X-rays (if needed). A series of full-mouth X-rays (intraoral and/or extraoral) will show any tooth and oral structure defects that are otherwise invisible to the naked eye.
- Oral cancer screening.
Why is it important to have a comprehensive exam?
You wouldn’t build a house without a plan, so don’t set about having dental treatment without one. ‘Treating’ teeth at random and only when you are in trouble is like building a house without a plan. Without taking into account the big picture, you will not get the best result. There is very little point putting a beautiful porcelain crown on top of a tooth if the foundation (your gums) is unhealthy. At the end of your exam, we will enter all required treatment into an easy-to-understand plan and order in list of priority. This will ensure that you are confident and knowledgeable in what treatment you are having done and that it suits your needs.
